Plumbing Questions Answered

What should I do if I have a burst pipe?+

If you have a burst pipe, immediately turn off your stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink or where the water supply enters your property). Turn off your boiler and water heater. Open cold taps to drain the system. Mop up any water to prevent damage. Then call us on 07984 499661 — we are available 24/7 and will get an engineer to you quickly.

How do I find my stopcock?+

In most London properties, the internal stopcock is located under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs bathroom, or in a utility room. It may also be in an airing cupboard. If you cannot find it, the external stopcock is usually located in the pavement outside your property — you will need a stopcock key to turn it off. It is worth locating yours before you have an emergency.

Can you fix a slow dripping tap?+

Yes — a dripping tap is usually caused by worn washers, O-rings or ceramic cartridges, and can be fixed quickly. It is worth getting it done promptly — a tap dripping once per second wastes over 5,000 litres of water per year and can cause limescale build-up around the fitting.

Do you carry out bathroom installations?+

Yes — we carry out full bathroom suite installations including toilets, baths, showers, basins and pipework. We work with your existing bathroom suite or source new fixtures. For larger bathroom renovations, we work alongside trusted tiling and fitting specialists.

Can you fix low water pressure?+

Low water pressure in London properties is relatively common and can be caused by several factors: a failing pressure-reducing valve, partially closed stopcocks, blocked aerators, or a supply issue with Thames Water. Our plumbers will diagnose the cause and recommend the most appropriate fix — which may include installing a water pressure booster pump.

What is a water hammer and how do you fix it?+

Water hammer is the banging or shuddering noise in pipes when water flow is suddenly stopped — for example when you close a tap quickly or a valve shuts. It is caused by the kinetic energy in moving water creating a pressure wave. It can be fixed by installing water hammer arrestors, securing loose pipes, or adjusting water pressure. Left untreated, it can damage pipe joints over time.
