What does a full central heating installation involve?+
A full central heating installation includes fitting a new boiler, installing radiators in every room, laying pipework throughout the property, fitting thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), installing a room thermostat and programmer, and commissioning the entire system. How do I know if my central heating system needs power flushing?+
Signs that your system may need power flushing include: radiators that are cold at the bottom but warm at the top, the boiler making banging or kettling noises, cold patches on radiators, the system taking a long time to heat up, dirty or discoloured water when bleeding radiators, and higher-than-expected energy bills. Power flushing removes sludge and debris that reduces efficiency.
How long does power flushing take?+
Power flushing typically takes 6–8 hours for an average-sized home, though this varies depending on the number of radiators and the level of sludge build-up in the system. Properties with severe sludge or many radiators may take longer. We will give you an accurate estimate after assessing your system.
Can you add a radiator to an existing system?+
Yes — we can add one or more radiators to an existing central heating system. This involves running new pipework from the main circuit to the new radiator location, fitting the radiator and TRV, and balancing the system. We will check whether your existing boiler has sufficient capacity to handle the additional load.
Should I add a magnetic filter to my heating system?+
Yes — we strongly recommend fitting a magnetic filter (such as a Magnaclean) to all central heating systems. It captures metallic sludge and debris before it can settle in radiators and the boiler heat exchanger. This extends the life of your boiler, maintains system efficiency, and is increasingly required to keep manufacturer warranties valid.
What is the benefit of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)?+
Thermostatic radiator valves allow you to control the temperature in each room independently, rather than heating every room to the same temperature.
